Sport

Immanuel Primary School has a strong sporting tradition. The sporting environment we strive for is one that provides maximum participation for students in a variety of sports with the emphasis on positive involvement and ‘personal best’ achievements rather than winning at all costs. No student is turned away from representing IPS in their chosen sport.

The aim is to promote students’ social, physical and personal development, provide enjoyment and a measure of success for all, promote skill acquisition and improvement and development of positive sporting behaviour including self-control, discipline, cooperation, tolerance and respect for others.

To this end IPS has developed one of the most comprehensive sporting team programs of any primary school in South Australia.

Our students are  involved in House, School, District, State and National events covering nine key sporting areas.

We are delighted to report that performances in all areas are high particularly in swimming and athletics where the students just love to improve on their personal best performances. There is a tradition of encouragement, success and enjoyment passed on from one cohort of students to the next.

This solid foundation has been an outcome from a very comprehensive and rigorous Physical Education Program. Immanuel is one of the most visited schools in the Asia Pacific region for the delivery of P.E. in the IB Primary Years Program.

Constant review, reflection and critical assessment of programs in attempting to meet the needs of young children is a feature of the P.E. staff at Immanuel.

Our goal is to give every student the opportunity to discover their talents and then encourage them to test themselves as to how far they can go – all in an encouraging environment with thoughtful and skilled coaches.
